A-Photonics is an Aalto University project engaged in pre-commercialization activities for its disruptive ultrafast laser technology which will enable new breakthrough applications in the medical, manufacturing and analytical instrumentation industries. Our innovation centers around a key ultrafast laser component known as a modulator and 2um actively mode-locked ultrafast lasers enabled by it. A-Photonics high-performance electrooptic nanomodulator was created to access new spectral regions using a scalable and low- cost silicon platform. This enables active mode-locking at various wavelengths, even 2–3µm, meaning electrical control over the pulse repetition rates. Applications enabled by our technology include NDT, imaging, sensing, surgery and much more.
