The Helsinki Book Review is a humble celebration of literatures in English, original and translated. We aim to establish a stronger international literary culture in the capital of Finland. We want to support both readers and writers of all backgrounds operating in the English language, and remind people that there are plenty of enthusiastic people reading books in English in this Nordic city. The Helsinki Book Review does not focus on Finnish literature, although we may review translated fiction from the country more often than some other reviewing sites. Nonetheless, we remain as unbiased as possible, and consider such works just as any other piece of literature. In addition to providing honest and respectful critique of literature, and in order to campaign for a more equal world, the Helsinki Book Review adheres to the following standards on a yearly basis: - A minimum of 50% of our reviewed titles are written by women. - A minimum of 20% of our reviewed fiction titles are translated works, and translators are mentioned in the headline by name.
