The work began in 2016, and the aim is to create an environment suitable for autonomous ships by 2025. The purpose is to enable more widespread adaptation of autonomous technologies in order to minimize accidents, decrease the environmental footprint of marine traffic and advance possibilities for efficiency improvement and new commercial ventures. Key players ABB, Awake.ai, Cargotec, Ericsson, Finnpilot Pilotage, Inmarsat, Kongsberg Maritime, Monohakobi Technology Institute, Napa, Tieto and Wärtsilä bring their knowledge and private investments to the ecosystem. Finnish Port Association, Finnish Shipowners’ Association, Finnish Marine Industries, Shipbrokers Finland and The Royal Institution of Naval Architects support the effort. One Sea is led by DIMECC.
