The Canal Route Tour by Stromma was one of the sightseeing options included with the Helsinki Card. It was a nice day and a pleasant boat ride. We enjoyed the sights and it gave us a view of the outskirts of Helsinki we would not otherwise have seen. We sat up top and could not hear the narrations while the boat was moving fast -- if you want to hear it, I would suggest sitting inside. Glad we had done it.

I’ve taken these types of city bus tours all over the world and even done quite a few of the “Stromma” ones as well and this one was... well... very average. First of all the busses don’t seem to run frequently enough during the middle of the summer. After we bought our tickets at stop #1 we were told the bus would be there in less than 10 minutes. However he wasn’t able to pull up the bus locations so that should have been our first warning. The bus eventually pulls up about 20 minutes later and the interior isn’t in great repair. Chipped signage, dirty seats and pieces of paper all around. We plug in and follow the sign for the English Channel... nothing. Check a few other seats... nothing. We check with the driver at stop number 2 and it turns out the first channel listing is wrong and it’s actually a different unlisted one. Would have been nice to have an announcement! Tour itself is fine - narration is average. We feel like we could have gotten as good a feel for the city via a walking tour.
There are several very similar bus tours in Helsinki. This one was not the best. It was very annoying that nobody told us that the tour stopped first at the ship terminal for a few minutes and then for 25 minutes at Temppeliaukion Kirkko. This tour was included in the Helsinki card otherwise it would be totally waste of money. The other Hop-On Hop-Off busses had exactly the same audio comments and much better sightseeing busses (with open top in summer).
Saw everything, did everything and the buses were always not far away. A little difficult finding how to get back to the ship, but Strommaan at Senate Square sorted it Great day off the Sapphire Princess
Got the Helsinki card and the canal boat tour was one of the main attractions. The tour was pre-recorded and tough to hear unless you were sitting right by one of the speakers and the boat wasn't going too fast.
Sightseeing services and excursions. Nice central location besides Kappeli in Esplanad Park.
