The building itself is quite basic one for student activities can be reserved. It has a sauna inside and sound system for events. Brief history I found is : The Student Union of the University of Oulu (OYY) monitors the students’ interests at the university, offers various services and arranges events. All the Bachelor and Master’s degree programme students at the University of Oulu are members of OYY. You can turn to the Student Union with any questions related to studying and the everyday life of a student. Also, OYY provides information about student benefits, different events and other topical matters. The operations of the Student Union are based on securing a good life for students. When you begin your studies, you will automatically become a member of the Student Union. At the beginning of the academic year, you pay the Student Union membership fee, with which you receive all membership benefits and the student card. The membership guarantees you affordable health services at the Finnish student health service (FSHS), and by showing your student card, you are entitled to discounts on the train and the buses as well as at several stores and service providers. Also, you will receive a student calendar from the Student Union. And above all, the Student Union will support you in matters related to the student’s interests in education and social policy and they arrange free time activities. The OYY supports the activity of many clubs, hobby, subject and interest groups. These societies organize various activities that support studying and they also arrange free time activity and parties. Societies offer you possibilities to meet new people and find like-minded students, start a new hobby and help you to get the sense of belonging in the university community.
