A free open museum in the center, a good location for tourists to visit. The museum has 4 floors which exhibit a variety of photos, objects about Helsinki in different periods of time. The museum gives a brief overview of the development of the Helsinki city. You can find a restaurant and souvenir shop in the museum.
It is great place to understand the history of the city. People who work there are extremelly kind. I had fun too.
Wonderful free museum. It doesn’t tell so much about Helsinki’s history but shows different aspects. It’s most suitable for kids as there are a lot of things to touch and see than deeper information. Also good place to rest and drink nice coffee. I would definitely come back.
TOURISTS BEWARE!!! Sorry for the attention grabbing there. Ok first off there is nothing wrong with this museum it is a perfectly pleasant diversion, however if you are in Helsinki for a city break or fresh off a cruise ship this museum is not for you. It gives a very brief overview of the city of Helsinki, however the things it focuses on can feel random and don't give a coherent history of the city. This museum is much better suited to people from Finland or Scandinavia who already have an understanding of the wider story. Still it's modern, everything is in several languages and it can be interesting so don't rule it out if you feel it may interest you, I personally just feel that if your visiting Helsinki for a short time this place is not worth your time.
Very interesting place! Even my kids (10yo) enjoyed it. For a free museum it is impressive
Wonderful little museum! I really enjoyed learning about the history of Helsinki in this beautiful little museum. The exhibitions are all really well done, with some interactive pieces, and a fresh take on museums. I especially loved the time machine! Absolutely worth the visit, great for adults and children.
A free museum with a nice little gift shop. It has a friendly staff. You'll definitely find out interesting tidbits about Helsinki and sometimes too there's and edgy new exhibit on the top floor.
