TKY exists to represent, campaign and provide services, social activities and welfare support for the students of Helsinki University of Technology in Finland. Joining the Student Union and paying the Student Union fee is mandatory for all undergraduate students. Graduate students can also join the Union. The interests of 11,000 students result in a wide spectrum of activities, and therefore the aim of the Union is to link its members to promote their civic, social and intellectual aspirations. But apart from social activities the Union also plays an active role in the workings of the University. Through student representatives, selected by the Union, students take part and influence the decisions of various administrative committees and boards at all levels of the University. NB! TKY merged with KY (The Student Union of Helsinki School of Economics) and TOKYO (The Student Union of University of Art and Design Helsinki) on January 1st 2010 as stated in university acts 558/2009 and 559/2009. The activities and responsibilities of mentioned student unions are carried on by formed Aalto University Student Union.
