Great place to visit. The castle is very big with lots of different rooms to visit. There is also a lot of different old items in various exhibitions. Alot of helpful guides that are happy to explain more about the castle and its history. Prepare with comfortable shoes. To tour the whole castle you need to walk quite a lot, including also narrow and steep staircases. Overall, probably the best castle in Finland. Great place to visit also for families, even with young children. At least my children loved this place.

This is a must see in Turku for lots of reasons. Both to illustrate the difference in nobolityd display of lavish lifestyle between courts in Europe and the distant north. The tour takes some time (easily 11 hours per castle), but all the history is easily worth the time investment.
The oldest and the largest surviving medieval building in Finland at the banks of the Aura River where history of Finland ,Sweden and the other Nordic country lies . It is more than 700 yr old historical monument (the history of castle begin in 1280's ) . Worth visit with all those interesting history !
Turku Castle (Finnish: Turun linna, Swedish: Åbo slott) is a medieval building in the city of Turku in Finland. Together with Turku Cathedral, the castle is one of the oldest buildings still in use and the largest surviving medieval building in Finland. It was founded in the late 13th century and stands on the banks of the Aura River. The castle served as a bastion and administrative centre in Eastland, as Finland was known during its time as a province of Sweden. Only once did the castle figure in the defence of the realm, when Russian invaders from Novgorod destroyed Turku in 1318.
I've visited plenty of different castles all over Finland and this one definitely one of the best. There is just so much stuff to see. There is the outside area of the castle where you can see what the castle looks like from outside. Then there is the interior where you can see what it was like to live in the castle. There is also people who will help you along the way. I give 5/5
Good information on the rooms. Nice people directing and giving randomly history lessons. Perfect for kids over 4.
You should reserve few hours to see all of the Turku Castle. The main castle and the bailey have both so much to see. In main castle different historical eras are clearly visible as castle was fequently and modified to fullfil the needs of royalty. I recommend English guide. She made our tour very informative but also fun with many fascinating detailed stories from era and castle. Bailey is also very fascinating. Has timeline of Turku, Finland and Europe depicting Turku castles history. There is a couple of exhibitions around castle/bailey worth checking out. I recommend strongly visiting Baileys rococo section. Astonishing beautiful rooms. I strongly recommend Turku castle to both finnish and international visitors.
Much more than I expected. It goes on and on. Very well done. Kids would love climbing up and down the stairs. You walk through time. I am a pensioner so the entry fee was 6.00 Euro. Very much worth the price. You could spend four hours easily. The attendants are smiling, and knowledgeable. Willing to give information too. Very well done Turku. Bravo.
